The HTC One (M8) was introduced more than a year ago, its design was an evolution compared to its predecessor including more metal in its construction and it turned out to be one of the best-designed smartphones of 2014. The Sense UI got a visual overhaul in its sixth version offering extra customizations and was very well received. The BoomSound speakers were improved and a Micro SD card slot was added, allowing to expand the 16 GB or 32 GB of storage included in the phone. The main camera was upgraded to one that included Ultrapixel technology as well as a Duo Camera setup that let users add some effects by changing the focus in some objects, of course, being a 4-megapixel sensor, it was criticized as it wasn’t on par with the resolution of the cameras included in the rest of the smartphones. Even the front-facing camera had more resolution with its 5-megapixel sensor.

Still, the One (M8) was one of the most powerful phones at the time and it helped the company to keep its reputation of building beautifully designed hardware. The phone was released with Android 4.4 KitKat and by the time Google unveiled the update that later came known as Android Lollipop, the company promised that this phone would be among the first ones to get the latest update in 90 days after Google released it. The company couldn’t achieve that goal, but the phone got updated not too long afterwards.

Now, a new update for the Android operating system has been announced, it’s currently known as Android M and it brings some changes in the launcher, although those might be kept untouched on the customized UI’s made by the smartphone makers. The way apps handle permissions is new, there are some new volume controls and improvements with the way the OS handles the RAM will be made. Now, in a conversation on Twitter with HTC’s Mo Versi, the company spokesperson has said that the HTC One (M8) will be updated to this new version of Android to get these improvements. It’s always nice when companies support their hardware from previous generations and HTC is becoming well known for that.
