After YotaDevices had launched their crowdfunding campaign to bring their YotaPhone 2 over here to the US. The company had a pretty successful campaign on Indiegogo, they have to cancel their plans for the US. And that’s largely due to the partners. Due to unforeseen production and delivery set backs in North America. This email was sent out to Indiegogo backers explaining the whole situation. They also stated that a delay in the YotaPhone 2 coming to North America would have brought the device here in 2016. While other regions of the world would be getting newer and better hardware. The company feels that would not be in the best interest of their customers. And we’d have to agree here, getting a device that already has its successor out is not a great deal.

YotaPhone 2 is a great looking smartphone, and we actually got some hands-on time with it at Google I/O this past May. It features an AMOLED display on one side and an e-ink display on the other. The e-ink display is great for reading and such, and doesn’t use as much power as the AMOLED display, obviously. And the battery can also keep going for quite some time. It’s available in both black and white, and I was actually quite impressed with the device during my limited hands on time at Google I/O.

YotaDevices is offering two options for those backers from Indiegogo. One is to get the international version of the device. Which is pretty much the same as what we would have gotten here in North America, except for the fact it won’t work on LTE. You’ll be stuck with HSPA+ on T-Mobile or AT&T. Which for some people that’s just fine. The other option is to get a refund from YotaDevices, however, it is not clear how that refund will happen and how quickly you’ll be getting your refund.

Hopefully with the YotaPhone 3 coming out pretty soon, we should see that make its way to North America, and perhaps even on a carrier or two. It’s a great looking device and has some great features as well. It’s also one of the high-end smaller smartphones left out there, unfortunately.
