Micromax’s subsidiary, Yu Televentures, has a big device under their belt, the Yuphoria, released a while back featuring the very special Cyanogen OS. The device, which was primarily aimed at Indian audiences has seen success, since Yu has an event planned for this Saturday, the 18th, to officially unveil the YuFit and the HealthYu wearable and platform. But, according to a pair of videos tweeted out by Yu’s founder Rahul Sharma over the past couple of days, Yu is readying a product of some sort for this Monday, the 20th.
The first video, tweeted on Thursday, shows a pair of phones being blended into dust. We’ve seen drop tests, scratch tests, and even the ridiculous arrow or bullet tests, but blenders are new to the field of advertising products that aren’t the blenders themselves. The associated hashtag, because every new product seems to have one, is the cleverly used #YuGuessWhat. The last thing to show is the date 20-07-2015, telling us to stay tuned for the date.
The second video, however is much more a traditional teaser, if you could call it that (and since it doesn’t utilize a blender, we shall). Phones take a beating in day-to-day use and ownership, from casual falls from the counter or your desk at work, to the banister at the top of the second floor in a building, leading to a fall that can kill devices of low and high quality. Yu’s second teaser shows multiple falls, from varying heights and objects, spawned from various situations and mishaps. And in each case the device seems to survive, with a (from what can easily be seen) undamaged display, still glowing and waiting for your fingers to tap away at it. Again, it closes with the hashtag, and stay tuned date.
From those, we can gather two things. First, we can see that the advertising department at Yu has a creative mind, and are allowed to express it. But more importantly, we can see that ruggedness is paramount to this upcoming product. Since the focus in both teasers is a smartphone in some sort of physical peril, the product that’s due out this Monday could be either a ruggedizing accessory, like a custom-made case to toughen up your Yu smartphone, or a whole new device, meant to withstand the damage of both daily tumbles and blender blades. Either way, Yu fans will have quite the weekend ahead, and should be watching out for more teasers, just in case, and a pleasant beginning to next week.
