We are always happy to report when an Android device gets an upgrade to the latest OS and in this case it is the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge getting its well-deserved Lollipop 5.1.1. The Canadian version of the Galaxy Note Edge is shown as updated in the screenshot taken below.  If you have not yet received your update ‘voluntarily,’ you can always force the issue by hitting Menu > Settings > About Device > Software Update > Update.  Not only is this good for the Galaxy Note Edge owners, but it also helps with Android’s distribution percentages to reduce fragmentation.

The Galaxy Note Edge was released last year beside the normal Galaxy Note 4, but Samsung decided to pass on a Galaxy Note Edge 2 and instead offer a more mainstream, Galaxy S6 Edge+ with a 5.7-inch curved display.  This did not sit well with many Galaxy Note 3 users ready to upgrade this year – now it will have to be a new Note 5 with a non-removable battery and no microSD slot or the option to give up their S-Pen and purchase the S6 Edge+.

The Galaxy Note Edge has a small, but loyal following, selling about 630,000 – but it is certainly a niche product that Samsung just felt was not worth the effort.  It mixed the versatility of the Galaxy Note 4 with a cool factor – the entire right side of the display was curved downward and really opened the door to the Galaxy S6 Edge offered up six months later.  The new all-metal frame, new trim and back panel all added to the premium look of the Galaxy Note Edge.  It was improved in every area – display, build quality, the processor and even the S-Pen.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge’s display is a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED beauty with a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels x 160 pixels, a curve on its right-hand side and 524 pixels-per-inch (PPI).  It uses the 32-bit Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor clocked at 2.7GHz with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable internal storage.  Samsung improved the camera with a 16MP sensor, Autofocus, LED Flash, ISOCELL technology, and then added in OIS+ and Live HDR shooting. The front-facing camera (FFC) on the Note Edge is a wide-angle 3.7MP sensor and lens for excellent group selfies and conference style video chats.  The removable 3000mAh battery should get you through a full day and you can always use Samsung’s Ultra Power Saving Mode (UPSM) to extend your time or use the Quick Charge 2.0 feature.
