Just like with almost every Samsung device, we got a lot of information prior to its official announcement. What started as a rumor will finally materialize on August 13, a date when the company has scheduled an Unpacked event. This event was usually dedicated to the launch of the new Galaxy Note, and while such a device will definitely make an appearance, Samsung will launch other devices as well, including a larger version of their flagship with curved screen, known as the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus as well as some accessories. It seems like Samsung wasn’t ready for the success of the regular device and production fell short, so this time, they get a chance to get new customers or those who wanted the smaller version could end up buying the newer device.

Ever since the original S6 Edge launched, the functionality of having a curved display on both sides was questioned. Samsung had a little experience with curved displays, as they used one on the Galaxy Note Edge, and they made the curved side show additional information. That’s pretty much the case for the S6 Edge, but they also included what they called Edge lighting, as the animations on this part of the screen would make the users know when they have a missed call or notification. It could even get color coded for up to five contacts and when pulling those colors from the edge to the center, some information of those contacts could be seen.

Now, there’s a report that Samsung could further enhance the functionality of the People Edge on the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, as the contacts would be on one side and 5 shortcuts for apps could be added in the other edge, so users can easily access these apps with a tap on the edge. On the contacts side, tapping one contact will give additional options such as sending an image or an emoji or even starting a video chat in a new interface called “OnCircle”. This is probably to take advantage of the larger 5.7-inch display and the rest of the specs are nearly identical to those of the regular version, but 4 GB of RAM are also expected for the new device.
