Sprint and Samsung are beginning to roll out the Android 5.1.1 update to the Galaxy Note 4 today. This update is the second Lollipop update, bringing it from Android 5.0.2 to Android 5.1.1. While the version number seems pretty big, in comparison, it’s mostly a bug fixer update. Which is desperately needed for Lollipop. The update is rolling out today, and should be hitting your Galaxy Note 4 fairly soon.
The update is only for the Sprint Galaxy Note 4, and will not work on the other variants of the Galaxy Note 4. You can grab the update from Sammobile or via KIES and update your device. Or you can simply wait for Sprint to send the update to your phone. Updating your phone with the new ROM is actually pretty simple, and KIES will walk you through it.
A lot of the changes in Android 5.1.1 you won’t notice on the Galaxy Note 4. Primarily because they are visual changes, and with Samsung’s Touchwiz UI on top of it, you won’t see any real differences. However, under the hood, there are plenty of changes, which should make your Galaxy Note 4 run faster and smoother. Which is definitely important, seeing as we’ve had a lot of reports that the Lollipop update really crippled the Galaxy Note 4 when it came out earlier this year.
This update comes out just days ahead of the Galaxy Note 5 unveiling in New York City. Samsung will be announcing the Galaxy Note 4, and Galaxy S6 Edge+ in NYC on Thursday at yet another Unpacked event. It’s a little interesting to see the update come out ahead of the Galaxy Note 5, as many OEMs will hold back updates until the new device has been out for a bit. Giving people a reason to buy the new phone, rather than sticking with their current phone.
