Yesterday, Google revealed its latest and most controversial move as a company yet, as Google will no longer be Google per-se. Since the shocking announcement, Google is now part of Alphabet, a new company created by Google’s co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. You may have already heard about this surprising occurrence, as it has been the media’s main focus since the bombshell move was made public. If you have already heard about the new company under which Google will be operating, more questions than answers could be surrounding your thoughts. So, how exactly will Alphabet actually affect you? After the restructuring of Google and the creation of Alphabet, a lot of changes will be surely coming, as Google will only be focused in its own products, instead of investing time and effort in their controversial “moonshot” projects.
The main concern around the general Google user is if this move will have a negative outcome in the way they use Google’s many different products and services. Fortunately for now, it seems that nothing will change in the near future, which means that you will be able to use any of the company’s services without having to worry as much. Larry Page, former Google CEO and now Alphabet’s CEO, stated that the new move will not change the way its numerous users interact with the already existing services in a bad way, and that Google in fact, will now be able to completely focus on improving the company’s main services such as Ads, Photos, Gmail, Maps, the Google Play Store, YouTube, and Android. Google’s new CEO, Sundar Pichai will surely work hard to ensure the future of Google is actually better than it is now, without stripping any of the core elements that give Google its identity.
But the fact that Google will not be experimenting any major changes doesn’t mean that changes aren’t coming. What might actually affect the end user is the many innovative projects that Google was previously working on, as they will get full support and backing from Alphabet, allowing them to be released sooner than later. These projects include Google’s self-driving cars, Google Glass, Wing, and many other projects that were previously under Google’s control. This means that Alphabet will be able to experiment with any area of technology, which will help Larry Page and Sergey Brin continue to innovate with virtually no restrictions.
