There is no doubt that Google is making a difference in the computer space with their Chrome OS. Chrome OS is a very bare bones operating system which allows computer manufacturers such as ASUS and Samsung to create hardware that is very affordable for consumers. If you go looking for a Chromebook, you can easily find some that cost under $200, a steal for a laptop in this day and age.
If you are in the market for a Chromebook containing an IPS display, though, you will be hard-pressed to find one with a very cheap price tag. But CTL has just changed that with their newest Chromebook, the J4+. This Chromebook features an 11.6-inch 1366 x 768p IPS display and costs only $200, making it the cheapest Chromebook to date with an IPS display. The benefits of the J4+ containing an IPS display are wide viewing angles, great color reproduction, and great color accuracy.
Other specs of the CTL J4+ are as follow, a quad-core Rockchip processor, 4GB or RAM, 16GB of storage, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, two USB ports, a microSD card slot, HDMI port, and last but not least a 3400 mAh battery that CTL says will get you nine hours of battery life. All of this plus a decent sized, high-resolution IPS display equal up to a very good piece of hardware with a price of only $200.
Something worthy of pointing out about the CTL J4+ is that CTL is advertising it as a Chromebook for education. Becuase of this it seems that the $199 price tag only applies to ‘qualified education customers.’ If you do happen to be a qualified education customer then you are getting an amazing device for only $200 that is also backed by what CTL calls ‘enterprise-class service and support.’ However, if you aren’t a qualified education customer then it is currently unclear as to whether or not you will be able to get your hands on the J4+. Hopefully, CTI will make the J4+ available to all customers at some point, even if it does come at a slightly higher cost to them.
