Rumors have been swirling about when Google would be looking to launch the new Nexus smartphones this year, and while there has been talk of Google holding an event on September 29th where the devices are thought to receive an official unveiling, that possibility looks to potentially be more accurate than before. Google began sending out invites to this event for September 29th just this afternoon, slated to happen in San Francisco and beginning promptly at 9 am PT. Doors will open for attendees an hour prior to the event likely so they can get situated and organized before things kick off.

In the event it never explicitly states that Google will be showing off either new Nexus smartphone, however it does state they will be holding the event to show off some tasty new treats. The event invitation reads, “Joins us for some tasty new treats, and much s’more.” The event will be live streamed on Google’s official YouTube channel so those who are able to attend the event in person will be able to see things unfold live on the web, making it possibler for everyone to see the unveiling of whatever Google has to show the world once the event starts.

Following the event, it’s said that Google will be having “hands-on” time which would be presumably for attending journalists covering the event to see the products close up and spend some time handling them. Earlier this morning the names for both the LG and Huawei Nexus smartphones were leaked and revealed to seemingly be the LG Nexus 5X and Huawei Nexus 6P, and although those are also not confirmed by Google the naming fits in line with other rumors. It’s also been rumored that Google may be looking to show off the second generation of the Chromecast at this event, which was leaked earlier this morning alongside details that it will be coming with some brand-new features and improved functionality. If Google is set to unveil both new Nexus phones at the event on the 29th, then this could be when the world also gets a look at the final version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which would likely be followed by a nearby release of the software.
