Hulu is one of those online streaming companies which seems to be making considerable gains over the last year or two. The company has yet to reach the customer base enjoyed by the likes of Netflix, however, Hulu does offer its customers something Netflix does not. That is, a much faster route to programs, offering users the ability to watch shows much sooner after their TV debut. Which in itself, is a massive selling point and one Hulu does capitalize on.

That said, there is one trade-off with Hulu and that is that you cannot escape the ads. As well as having ads at the start of the programming, ads appear at periodic intervals throughout. This is, even for those who are paying for the subscription based version of Hulu. Well, a couple of weeks back, a rumor began to surface that Hulu might be planning to introduce a sort of ad-free version of the service. The rumor stated that those who wanted to skip ads could pay a higher premium (than the already-in-use subscription charge) and watch ad-free. Well, that is exactly what Hulu has announced today.

As such, those interested in going ad-free can do so by paying $11.99 per month. This works out to be an additional $4 per month on top of the ad-based Hulu experience, which currently costs $7.99 per month. If you are already on the $7.99 per month, then it seems that you can simply switch straight over to the new premium version, while those signing up fresh will likely be offered both options when joining. However, there is a small caveat and that is that it seems there are a few shows which Hulu does not have the licence to offer ad-free. For these particular shows, those on the new ad-free service will still experience ads at the start and end of each episode, although, unlike the ad version, will not have to endure ads throughout the show. A few of the shows listed as falling into this category include Grey’s Anatomy, Once Upon A Time, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Scandal, Grimm, New Girl, and How To Get Away With Murder.
