NVIDIA SHEILD Tablet Replacements Are Being Delayed

If you bought an NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet between July 2014 and July 2015 then you are aware of the fact that NVIDIA recalled all of those devices. This recall was due to faulty batteries which had the potential to overheat and even catch fire. NVIDIA did the right thing and publically acknowledged the battery overheating issue. The company then went on to offer a replacement program for all customers who purchased a SHIELD Tablet with a faulty battery. Unfortunately, it looks as though NVIDIA may have bitten off a little more than they could chew with offering so many replacement units so quickly.

Customers who sent their faulty SHIELD Tablets to NVIDIA for a replacement were promised said replacement unit would reach them within 2 to 4 weeks. NVIDIA was able to meet that demand at first, but now the high demand for replacement units is beginning to bear down on them. Customers who currently have a replacement SHIELD Tablet from NVIDIA on the way are starting to receive this email: “Dear NVIDIA tablet owner, We apologize for the delay in sending your replacement SHIELD Tablet. We are fulfilling claims as quickly as we can, in the order in which they were received. In some cases, we are running behind our target delivery of 2-4 weeks. We’re doing everything we can to accelerate the schedule. We’ll notify you when your unit ships. In the meantime, should you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected]. Thanks for your patience. NVIDIA” The email, as you can see, clearly states that NVIDIA seems to be falling behind with getting some customers their replacement units within the promised 2 to 4-week timeframe. Despite this, you can’t be that mad at NVIDIA for this particular detail, after all there were around 90,000 SHIELD Tablets that contained faulty batteries.

The SHIELD Tablet was an immediately popular tablet designed for gaming, which caused tons of people to purchase one. The gaming tablet contains a quad-core Tegra K1 processor, 8-inch 1920 x 1200p display, 2GB of RAM, and two 5MP cameras. It is still arguably the best Android tablet for gaming on the market and many Android gamers will swear by its great performance, even when playing graphically intensive games. If you happen to have an NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet replacement on the way from NVIDIA then it looks like you will have to be a little patient. NVIDIA did say in the email that they sent out that they are currently working on ways of speeding up the replacement process. Hopefully, because of this most replacements won’t be delayed.
