Republic Wireless, one of the number of MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) operating on Sprint’s CDMA-based cellular network, has announced its preliminary update schedule for its Motorola phones. Announcing its plans to update the first generation Moto X, G and E, and the second generation Moto X and Moto G smartphones, the carrier mentioned that some of the devices will get their first taste of 5.1 Lollipop with the impending rollout. Republic Wireless also said that it will be rolling out critical security patches to plug the Stagefright exploit in addition to the Lollipop 5.1 update. While some of the devices will receive just the patch, others will receive both, according to the announcement made by the company on Friday, September 4th.

Announcing the upcoming software updates, a company representative who goes by the username ”sarahd”, wrote on the official Republic Wireless blog that, “The Lollipop updates are one of our top engineering priorities and the team is working diligently to get them implemented”. She also mentioned that the incoming Lollipop update will make the messaging app more stable by implementing the “standardized underlying API set for messaging”, which promises to fix certain issues reported by customers, whereby incoming calls were going straight to voicemail or there were delays in making calls.

Detailing its plans for the forthcoming updates on the official company blog, the carrier mentioned that the ETA for the same would be sometime during the end of October, and that all devices will get their updates within the next eight to ten weeks. Which means all the devices will end up getting their awaited updates by the end of the year. The company also promises to resolve an issue regarding the Wi-Fi connections on some of the devices. The company says that some third party apps that use Bluetooth beacons are to be blamed for the issues regarding Wi-Fi connectivity, and that it is working with Motorola to roll out a fix for the issue either through the OTA updates or through an update to its app on Google Play.

As for the devices scheduled to get their 5.1 Lollipop updates, the first generation Moto X, G and E are in line to get the update in that order, while the second generation devices from the now Lenovo-owned company, will start receiving their Stagefright patches within the next few weeks.
