RUMOR: Google event in San Francisco on Sept. 29th for Nexus

It’s been a while since Google has held an event to announce new Nexus hardware. The last actual event was for the Nexus 7 2013 and Android 4.3 which was a pretty small event. Typically, Google will announce the new Nexus smartphones and other hardware through a press release in October and invite the press to a small gathering where they can pick up the devices and get their reviews and coverage going. According to CNET, who seem to have a scoop on this in Berlin, Google is planning a September 29th event in San Francisco. They also state that the company is doubling down on the Nexus. According to CNET, LG will be making a smaller Nexus smartphone with Huawei doing the larger one. Basically, what’s been rumored for the past few months.

It’s important to state that this is not a confirmation. However, CNET isn’t one to post bogus rumors and leaks. So this is as close to true as you can possibly get. If it is indeed true, we should see some invites coming out to the media in the next few weeks, likely after IFA and the September iPhone event on the 9th. We’ll be keeping our eyes open to see what else pops up in regards to the Nexus and a September 29th event. It’s not the first time this date has surfaced either.

If all of these rumors are true, this would be the first time that Huawei and Google have partnered together to create a Nexus. While it’ll be LG’s third go-round at it. The deal with Huawei and Google would be a much bigger deal than LG. Huawei has had trouble in the US and to an extent even in Europe. Due to the Chinese Government having a stake in the company. But this would also help Google, as they may be able to work with the Chinese government and get Google removed from their firewall. Currently, all Google services – as well as a number of other websites we use in North America – are blocked by the firewall in China. They have also begun blocking a number of VPNs which users use to get around the firewall.

It definitely looks like Nexus is coming early this year. And it’s going to be a good thing. Both Nexus devices will be coming with Android 6.0 Marshmallow pre-installed. Which was officially announced a few weeks ago, with the previews dating back to May at Google I/O. It’s an exciting time to be an Android fan.
