We haven’t heard much about a new tablet for Google’s big event tomorrow, but it looks like they have something in the pipeline for “later this year”. According to Android Police, Google is working on a 10.2-inch tablet that will coincide with the Pixel brand. Which has been used for Chromebooks, however this will be an Android tablet, but it will not be a Nexus tablet. Confused yet? Before we continue, it’s important to stress that this is a rumor and not confirmed, we haven’t even seen pictures of it just yet. So we’ll be taking this with a grain of salt or two.
According to the report, this tablet is going to come with the lightbar that we see on the Chromebook Pixel – both generations – and many of us love that lightbar. It’s also going to come with a detachable keyboard, which we’ve seen a few other OEMs do, and work pretty well. Especially with the Dell Venue 10. As far as the screen goes, it’ll have a 308ppi, and will be running on NVIDIA’s Tegra X1 processor, along with the Maxwell GPU. It will also have 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM inside. The report also states that the build of the Pixel C 10.2 will feel like the Chromebook Pixels. Meaning it will be built out of aluminum, and feel pretty premium. Which means it will likely have a pretty premium price tag. No word on the price though. The Pixel C 10.2 will also feature a USB Type-C connector, similar to the Chromebook Pixel as well as the Huawei Nexus 6P and LG Nexus 5X.
This will not be a Nexus device, as this is built solely by Google and not by a manufacturer partner like LG, Samsung, Huawei or Motorola. We’re expecting to see it announced in November, which means pre-orders likely won’t ship until December or even later. We’ll have to wait and see, but this is going to be a pretty interesting tablet from Google. With the NVIDIA Tegra X1, it appears that Google is looking to aim this at Gamers. But they’ll be competing with NVIDIA’s own offerings in the SHIELD line up.
