Today has been a big day for HTC, they’ve announced their new HTC One A9 smartphone, and they’ve also announced that it’ll be getting updates as soon as 15-days after Google bring them to the Nexus line of devices. A bold claim, indeed but there’s more to the A9 than just speedy updates if you choose to buy it unlocked. HTC, as a company, has become known for a number of key aspects in these devices. Chief among them are the camera and the sound quality. Sadly, the HTC One A9 doesn’t feature stereo speakers, but it will support 24-bit audio and a power headphone amp. Where the camera is concerned, things are also a little conservative here, too.
There’s a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera here, and there doesn’t appear to be any UltraPixel gimmicks, here. It has an f/2.0 aperture, sports Optical Image Stabilisation and will capture RAW images for those looking to take full advantage of the sensor. Unlike other devices out there, this will only record 1080p video, and there are no other frame rates other than 30fps supported. Still, there’s a fun new Hyperlapse option included now, allowing users to create speedy videos out of those that are much longer. As for things around the front, there’s an HTC UltraPixel camera (which we presume is 4.0-megapixels) which will record 1080p video as well.
On the face of things, it does seem as though HTC’s latest could be a step backwards where camera performance is concerned, but we can’t say for sure just yet. It seems as though the A9 is a focus on all things easy and straightforward, which could mean this sports an easier shooting experience compared to others.We’ll be putting it through its paces, and seeing just what 13.0-megapixel sensor can do. With RAW support and so on, there should be a lot more on offer here than what HTC is listing on paper, and we’ll share all the camera samples with you as soon as we get our hands on the One A9.
