Since a lot of videos are uploaded to YouTube daily, Google is always looking for ways to make creators of original content to keep uploading videos and improving the quality of their content. Today, YouTube revealed their plans to launch a subscription service called YouTube Red. This service would allow its users to watch videos and original shows from some of their famous channels without ads. It was also announced that a separate music app called YouTube Music would launch “soon” and while we still don’t know a specific date for the launch of this app, we got to know a few more details.

YouTube Music exists because it provides a separate experience for users looking for this specific content, just like YouTube Kids or YouTube Gaming. The app will be designed to make discovering, watching, and listening to music a lot easier. It will allow users to discover songs from their vast catalogue by choosing one song and follow personalized recommendations. While the app will be free to download, by subscribing to YouTube Red, users will be able to unlock some of the premium features of YouTube Music such as ad-free, offline and background playback. Users will get a 14-day trial of YouTube Red membership without even entering credit card information and it can be extended to 30 days by entering this information.

The app will be available in the US at launch and more countries will get it in 2016. As for the content, YouTube Music has been identifying videos that are worthy to be featured on the stand-alone app, but surely more content will be added over time so users can access all the content they would want to see in a single app. Since the YouTube Red membership also includes access to Google Play Music, people wonder why are they creating YouTube Music, and the main difference seems to be that YouTube Music is based on videos, so you will probably have a better chance to find a lesser-known song from a given artist on Google Play Music than on YouTube Music. We’ll have to wait a little longer to see how this plays out, but the YouTube Red subscription and all of these services doesn’t seem like such a bad deal.
