The third quarter of the year ended on September 30th, and now analysts are getting their thoughts together ahead of the earnings calls, which are slated to begin in about another week or so. Which will start the busy earnings week. With AT&T on October 22nd and others following that. Analysts from Moffett Nathanson are stating that T-Mobile added the most subscribers in the third quarter. Which is not all that surprising, as that has been happening for the past few quarters already. But they way they got this data is pretty interesting. Moffett used Comlinkdata which uses natural language processing technology to refine large social media data streams to wireless customer conversations each day. This reflects the opinions of both switchers and non-switchers. This data allows Comlinkdata to observe why users are switching, as well as them switching and form opinions about the wireless market.

So in short, Moffett analysts are thinking that T-Mobile added the most customers in the third quarter based on social media. Which is a good way to measure these things, seeing as analysts don’t have access to the raw data that the carriers get. They also believe that AT&T struggled during that quarter. While T-Mobile’s John Legere said in mid-September that they had already surpassed the number of adds they had in the second quarter – which is 2.1 million – Moffett believes the carrier will add 1 million postpaid customers and 840,000 postpaid phone customers in the third quarter.

On the AT&T side, Moffett said that social media reflects that AT&T lost postpaid subscribers in that period. However due to their connected products like cars, they will likely still have more overall adds. On the Sprint side we’re looking at around 56,000 postpaid phone customers, however the analysts believe Sprint will lose around 24,000 customers in the period.

Moffett had no data on Verizon. But we should find out the truth from the four carriers in the very near future. We’ll, of course, be keeping an eye on the earnings this quarter and reporting everyone’s earning as usual. So make sure you keep it locked to Android Headlines for all the details.
