If last week brought with it Nexus day, then you can be sure that this week is very much Marshmallow week. It has been long expected that Google will drop Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) today and they already have this morning. This came in the way of the official announcement along with the official factory images going live. As such, anyone with any of the supported Nexus devices are able to install Marshmallow right now and enjoy the various improvements and new features like Now on Tap and Doze, among others.
However, if you are not so keen on sideloading the update yourself and would much prefer to hold on for the official OTA roll out to begin, then it looks like you won’t have to wait too long. As well as making the factory images live, Google has now confirmed that the roll out of the OTA will begin today too. Of course, it is worth remembering that these updates tend to be slow in actually reaching all devices. Let alone, an update of this magnitude. As such, the roll out will begin today, but it very well could be a few days before it reaches your particular Nexus device. As is the nature of staggered Android updates.
For clarity, the Nexus devices that Google has confirmed will begin to see the update this week include the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 9 and the Nexus Player. So if you are the owner of any of these devices then you should be seeing the OTA arrive within the next few days. For those running a Motorola Nexus 6 on T-Mobile, it is also worth noting that they have already confirmed via Twitter that their roll out of Marshmallow will also begin at some point this week. Although, in the case of T-Mobile no firm details were provided on the exact roll out time. As for the other carriers, no official word has come though as of yet, although they are unlikely to be too far behind in making an announcement. Either way, that time of year has now officially begun and the race to reach Marshmallow is now officially well underway.
