BlackBerry and Google seem to have become fast friends. The smartphone companies teamed up for the BlackBerry Priv, the first device to have both Android software and BlackBerry hardware. The Blackberry Priv emphasizes advanced security protection, and now Google wants to help explain the advantages BlackBerry is bringing to the platform. The pair is hosting a webinar this Thursday to help marry each company’s software benefits.
BlackBerry’s BES12 Enterprise Mobility Management solution works with iOS, Windows Mobile, as well as Android. However, the event later this week focuses on the relationship BES12 EEM and Android for Work are forming to help develop a stronger enterprise for businesses. According to the site BlackBerry set up for the partnership, BES12 will work in tandem with Android Lollipop, the latest available version of Android. Lollipop has added new security software that handles most concerns the enterprise may have while working with mobile technology, and the added functionality of BES12 makes the platform an even more viable option. BlackBerry is pushing their technology’s ability to add hardware-based encryption and otherwise secure personal data.
According to the announcement for the webinar, Android has an 85% share on the smartphone marketplace. The figure results in both an enviable position and one that requires extensive security protection. Android is targeted almost unanimously by mobile malware attacks. Google and BlackBerry aim to demonstrate how an integrated Android for Work suite of apps and other data can provide IT departments with a practical way for Android to compete in the workplace.
Google’s Michael Wyatt will be in attendance representing the search giant while BlackBerry’s David Arnold will assume the same role for the smartphone maker. Wyatt leads Chrome and Android in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa while Arnold is Senior Enterprise Solutions Manager at BlackBerry. The webinar will be held on October 15th at 11 am EDT. The runtime will be around 45 minutes. Google will also be busy running another webinar, this time solely focused on Android for Work, on November 4th. Both events are available for registration. BlackBerry is offering access to its BES12 EMM free for a 60-day trial period. The company has plans to release the BlackBerry Priv, which will run Android Lollipop, early next year.
