Chinese smartphone manufacturer ZTE is hoping to increase its market share outside its native country, and now China’s president Xi Jinping is expected to bring the company’s devices around the world in a state visit to the UK. Along with Huawei, ZTE’s devices are proving China’s value to the smartphone industry aside from hosting low-cost factories for the likes of Apple and other international firms.
ZTE recently launched their Axon handset and have made it available worldwide, which makes the ZTE Axon the company’s first device to claim that distinction. Designed to be a premium Android product at a budget cost, which the manufacturer has dubbed “affordable premium,” ZTE is hoping to gain recognition worldwide for its products.
China’s president Xi Jinping has decided to take several ZTE Axons with him on a trip to the United Kingdom where he will meet with government officials. Jinping is planning to promote his nation’s increasing expertise in the tech field by offering the ZTE Axons to select British politicians. The gift will also likely bode well for the meeting according to the Chinese tradition of “Guo Li,” which is a longtime practice in the country. The practice of exchanging presents before engaging in professional conferences is said to bring good luck. Otherwise, presenting the gifts in an undesirable manner or worse, not offering gifts at all, is similarly said to determine the general atmosphere of each group’s relations from that point on.
President Jinping’s gifts are sure to encourage acknowledgement of ZTE’s quality products in nations apart from China, and the company is happy to be involved. “We’d like to wish Mr. Xi all the best for his time in the UK, and hope that the gifting of the Axon smartphone brings good luck to everyone involved. We hope to see more collaboration between the East and the West in the future, spurring businesses and economic growth in both parts of the world – and one thing’s for sure: ZTE will be a big part of it,” said a ZTE representative.
The smartphone manufacturer has hired employees in the United States and Germany, but it still identifies as a primarily Chinese business. The growing pride in Chinese development is encouraging in the smartphone industry, which seems to be dominated by only a few companies. With quality products pouring in across the globe, these changes may bode well for the consumer.
