As Google has now finally taking the reigns off the next version of the Android operating system, Android 6.0 (Marshmallow), as is always the case with a new update, many manufacturers and the consumers alike will become fixated on when their respective devices will receive the update. Google yesterday released the source code to the AOSP for Marshmallow and you can bet that all those who want to be first to push out their updates will be already working double time to get those updates out.
In fact, in the last twenty four hours alone, there has been confirmations coming from the likes of Sony, Motorola and HTC as to which of their devices will see the update. By now, a number of Android device owners will be well-versed in the typical “two years of Android updates” that they are promised by manufacturers and this period of time will be when debate rages a to whether a device should or should not see an update. In terms of HTC and as mentioned, they were one of the companies who released a shortlist of devices which would be seeing the update. On that list was the current flagship, the HTC One M9 along with the popular fan favorite, the One M8. In terms of the latter of these, the One M8 schedule stated that the update should arrive (or at least begin to be pushed out) at the end of 2015.
However, there is of course the GPe version of the One M8 and these GPe devices typically begin to see their updates much quicker than their non-GPe variants. When it comes to the One M8 GPe, that very much looks to be the case. Known information provider for HTC, Mo Versi, took to twitter earlier today to state that the One M8 GPe will begin to see its Marshmallow update quite soon. In fact, according to Versi, the target for the One M8 GPe to begin receiving Marshmallow is this month. Of course, HTC were not the quickest with delivering Lollipop and this was in spite of stating they would be, with the company very publicly missing their self-imposed deadline earlier in the year.
