Google made a bunch of announcements at this week’s Nexus event. As well as introducing the newest of the Nexus devices, the Huawei Nexus 6P and the LG Nexus 5X, Google also unveiled the latest version of Android. This is Android 6.0 or otherwise, and more affectionately known as Marshmallow. Which is due to begin rolling out to some Nexus devices starting from next week. As is the tradition with all Android OS updates, this one comes with a sweet-based name attached and follows in the footsteps of the likes of Lollipop, Jelly Bean, Donut and many more. In fact, the Android OS history is quite an interesting one to take a look back through and below is a sweet-based infographic from Mobile Madhouse to help bring you up to date on how the evolution of the Android OS has unfolded.
As the infographic incorporates the latest information in the Android world, it also includes a number of aspects which are new to Android OS overall. Most notably the inclusion of BlackBerry as a manufacturer with their soon to be arriving BlackBerry PRIV smartphone. The first BlackBerry device to come running on Android. While in terms of Android Marshmallow specifically, this update will see a number of new improvements coming to the operating system. Some of the most notable ones include the support for fingerprint scanners (which is becoming an increasingly implemented feature from Android Manufacturers), Android Pay (although, this is not exclusive to Marshmallow), Now on Tap, Doze, a vertical app drawer and many more.
The infographic also includes a selection of devices that are designed to best represent ‘key devices’ in the history of Android. As such, the list starts off with the likes of the HTC Dream and the Galaxy S and finishes up with the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. As such a number of the 2015 devices are also here including the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and the BlackBerry PRIV. In fact, it is quite interesting to see which devices have been included as key devices and which have not.
