HTC surprised everyone when they introduced the One A9, as it is the first non-Nexus smartphone running on the newest version of the Android operating system, Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Shortly after, LG started updating the LG G4 in Poland, but the process was stopped very soon after it started. It is believed that LG sent the update to some devices from that region to test its behavior. Now, users from South Korea are starting to get Android 6.0 on their LG G4. The update is being delivered OTA to the variants with model numbers F500K, F500L and F500S, but it can also be done with LG Bridge.
This update includes major improvements related to the operating system like the Doze mode, which restricts background data when the phone is not used for a certain period of time, in order to save battery. Security is also improved as users will get to restrict the permissions granted to each app more easily. Google Now On Tap shows related information to what’s being displayed on any screen. Sound Settings have been improved as well with the return of Silent Mode and the way sounds or notifications from some apps are handled. LG optimized some aspects of the UX including improved automatic brightness adjustments, adjustable settings for how previews of notifications are displayed and Google Settings are now accessible from the Settings menu. It is also easier to check the memory that apps are currently using. Some apps changed their name, Q+ is now called Memo Capture+ and LG Bridge has been renamed to LG AirDrive.
The company mentions that no data loss should occur during the update, but certain errors on the process could affect data, so a backup is still recommended. For those who would like to check if the update is already available, go to Settings, select Apps, then Mobile Information Center in the General Section and under Updates, select Software Update. We still don’t know when the update will be rolling out to more regions, but it’s good to see that companies are making the update process a little faster than with previous updates for Android.
