According to a tweet on Friday from the product manager of T-Mobile US, Mr. Des Smith, the carrier will finally be rolling out the much-awaited Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Nexus 6 smartphone, which was the premium offering from Google, last year. The device was launched originally with Android 5.0 Lollipop, but Marshmallow factory images for the massive handset has been available for a while now, although, it is only now that T-Mobile will start updating the device on its network. The update has apparently already been approved, and users of the Nexus 6 phablet on the network should start receiving the new software soon. As for the tweet from Mr. Smith that forms the basis of this report, it read. “Great News! The @TMobile #Nexus6 Marshmallow SW MRA58X has been approved & should start rolling out soon!”.

The update will most likely be rolled out in phases, as is the established practice, so users should start getting notifications once it is available for the device. However, users may also check for the new software manually by going over to Settings > About > System Update. Android Marshmallow may only be an incremental upgrade over 5.0 Lollipop, but it does come with a number of nifty little features like an app permissions manager, native support for fingerprint scanner, Google Now on Tap, an all-new app drawer, more intuitive volume controls and of course, the battery saving feature called ‘Doze’ that disables network access for low-priority apps when the phone’s not in use.

As for the Nexus 6, the device was launched last year by Google, and is made by the Lenovo-owned American company, Motorola Mobility. The device features a 5.96-inch AMOLED display with a QHD (2560 x 1440) resolution and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 SoC. The phablet comes with 3 GB of RAM and a choice of either 32 GB or 64 GB storage without support for microSD cards. The handset sports a 13-megapixel camera on the back and a 2-megapixel camera on the front, and supports LTE, HSPA, GSM and also CDMA connectivity (depending on variants), alongside dual band (2.4GHz and 5 GHz) Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA and tethering (hotspot). The Nexus 6 carries a non-removable 3,220 mAh Lithium Polymer battery, and was launched with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.
