Chinese smartphone market is the largest one in the world. We talk about China-based companies on a daily basis because there are so many of them registered in the country. Unfortunately though, China is rather closed off country in a way, and Google Services are blocked over there. Chinese OEMs who sell their devices in the country don’t pre-install Google services, though you can always install them on the side. It has been like that for quite some time now, but Google has been looking for a way to get back to China (their services were actually available over there before), and expand their reach.
Now, this is not an easy task by any stretch of the imagination, but considering the amount of reports that have been surfacing these last couple of months, Google will make a comeback to China next year. According to a newly surfaced report, the Mountain View giant might launch the Google Play store in China in February next year. This would include the company’s applications and entertainment services, though we don’t know if all of them will be included just yet. Now, I mentioned that Google’s services were available in China before, Google has actually pulled their web search and services from the country back in 2010 over concerns including government censorship.
Things have somewhat changed, and even though we don’t know all the details at the moment, Google is definitely planning a comeback. Amazon and Apple have been quite successful in China, and no wonder Google wants back in as well. Despite the fact Google’s services are absent from the Chinese smartphone market, recent research has shown that quite a few users actually sideload Google Play store on Android devices, which is a good sign for Google. Users seem to want to use Google’s services in China, and it will be interesting to see if the Mountain View giant can compete with the establish app stores in China.
