According to a post on  Twitter by HTC ROM developer @LlabTooFer, HTC’s flagship smartphone from last year, the One M8, will be receiving the final stable build of Android 6.0 Marshmallow (overlaid with Sense 7.0) in two weeks’ time. The thing that’s important to remember here is that the Google Play edition of the device has already been updated to Marshmallow, so this news is relevant for people using the mainstream HTC ROM that comes with a Sense UI overlay. HTC, on its part, had already officially stated that the rollout will commence within 90 days of the official launch of Marshmallow. Now, if @LlabTooFer is to be believed, the company will be delivering on its promise within the next couple of weeks. The phone was originally launched with Android 4.4.2 KitKat pre-installed. Since then of course, it has gotten the official Lollipop update.

The One M8 is HTC’s flagship smartphone from 2014, and continues to be a stellar device in its own right even though earlier this year, it was replaced by the One M9. The One M8 may not have sold by the truckloads, but it does pack in some solid hardware and happens to be a fairly decent performer. While quite a few premium devices from a number of manufacturers have already started receiving their Marshmallow updates, many others are still waiting on the new software, so it must be exciting for One M8 users to know that they’re this close to getting a taste of the latest and greatest version of the world’s most popular mobile operating system. Native Marshmallow features like an app permissions manager, native support for fingerprint scanner, Google Now on Tap, an all-new app drawer and more intuitive volume controls can be expected to come as part of the new software, along with some tweaks in the user interface.

As mentioned already, the One M8 was HTC’s flagship from last year, and has a 5-inch 1080p Super LCD3 display with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The device is powered by Qualcomm’s MSM8974 Snapdragon 801 chipset and comes with 2 GB of RAM along with a choice of either 16 or 32 GB of internal storage. It features a dual 4-megapixel camera set-up at the back, along with a secondary 5-megapixel front camera for selfies, etc.
