Google announced Android 6.0 Marshmallow as Android ‘M’ back at the Google I/O developer conference in May this year. While the latest and greatest version of Android has since officially been released in October this year as Marshmallow, most OEMs and wireless carriers, as usual, are taking their own sweet time in rolling out the software to their respective smartphones and tablets. It is only recently that the Marshmallow update rollout has started gaining a bit of momentum, with a number of manufacturers and carriers starting to push out the latest and greatest version of the world’s most popular mobile operating system to a bunch of devices. Now that Marshmallow updates are starting to roll out thick and fast, it is the turn of Sprint to push the update to LG’s current premium smartphone, the G4.

According to a post on Sprint’s product support page for the LG G4, the update has already gone live as of Thursday, December 17th. The Marshmallow ROM for Sprint’s G4 is said to come with the software version number LS991ZV9, and the official changelog states ‘Sprint Global Roaming’ as the only non-standard Marshmallow feature that’s being rolled out as part of the update. It is worth noting that according to the listing, the version of Marshmallow that is being rolled out is Android 6.0 and not 6.0.1, which is what is currently being pushed out by some of the carriers to the Nexus 6 smartphone recently.

Meanwhile, the latest update from Sprint will be available Over the Air (OTA), and the notification should start appearing soon if it hasn’t already. Users who simply don’t want to wait for the update notification to arrive, can manually check for the availability of the new software on their devices by accessing Settings > About Phone > Common > Update Center > Software Update on their G4 smartphones. Marshmallow, of course, is the latest version of Android from Google, and comes with some nice features like an app permissions manager, native support for fingerprint scanner, Google Now on Tap, an all-new app drawer, more intuitive volume controls and of course, the battery saving feature called ‘Doze’ that disables network access for low-priority apps when the phone’s not in use.
