Netflix is one of the more popular streaming video apps out there, behind YouTube. Netflix has all sorts of movies, TV Shows and their own original content available for streaming. At a pretty low price. Netflix has been updating their Android app as of late, and have made it pretty good actually. With the latest update for the Android version, we now have the ability to call customer support from inside the app. So if you ever have a problem with Netflix and need some help, you can simply call them up without even leaving the app. Making it a real convenience for users.
What’s interesting here is that the call is VoIP. So it’s going over WiFi or a mobile data connection to make the call. For obvious reasons, you’ll want to be sure that you are connected to some strong internet for the call. Now just hit that big green “Call Us” button and it will ask for permission first (only if you’re on Android 6.0 or higher) then proceed to make the call. And you’ll be able to get help with whatever issue you are having. It’s great to see Netflix using VoIP for this feature as that is the future for phone calls, with more and more carriers moving towards that technology in the very near future. And Google Voice already uses VoIP for phone calls as well as Project Fi.
That’s about it for this update. Netflix also notes in the changelog that there are some bug fixes also happening in the app with this update. Which is pretty normal for app updates. Additionally, it’s important to remember that this calling customer support feature is just now rolling out. So if it doesn’t work on the first try, don’t get too upset. There will be kinks to workout, and it’s entirely possible that a number of people will try the feature, just because, and that could also cause some issues. The update is already available on the Google Play Store, so you can head on over there and grab the update, or download the app if you haven’t already.
