While Google released Android Marshmallow several months back, most Android OEMs have been slow in rolling out the update to their respective smartphones and tablets. Of late, however, some of the premium devices from Samsung, LG and HTC have started seeing the latest major version of Android being rolled out to them, and more are expected to follow in the times to come. Taiwanese tech company HTC happens to be one of those vendors that have been rolling out Android 6.0 to a number of its devices, including the 2014 flagship, the One M8, and the current flagship, the One M9.
The last mentioned has already started receiving Marshmallow in Canada as of today, and the One M8 started getting the Marshmallow treatment in Asia as of yesterday. The new software is also expected to be expected to be rolled out to the Sprint version of the One M8 later this week and the T-Mo version of the handset next week. So it is no wonder then that the device will start getting the latest and greatest version of Android in other markets as well, and that is exactly what seems to be happening now. According to a post on the official Twitter account of HTC UK, users of the One M8 in the country can expect the sweet taste of Marshmallow on their premium HTC handset within the next 48 hours, which must be music to the ears of One M8 users.
As for the post from HTC UK that forms the basis of this report, it read: “Great news! We’ll be rolling out the Marshmallow update for the HTC One M8 over the next 48 hours. One M9 to follow shortly”. While it does confirm that Marshmallow for the UK version of the One M9 is indeed in the works and will be rolled out to the handset at some stage, there’s no indication as to what exactly “shortly” refers to. One M9 users will be hoping that the much-awaited update will come sooner rather than later, but the ambiguous wording of the post has probably failed to whet the appetite of most One M9 users in the country, who’ll now be hoping for a more concrete ETA from the company.
