YouTube has quickly become one of the biggest entertainment sources on the web, and it’s only getting more popular. Last year was one that ended on a high note for YouTube, with some of the biggest numbers ever seen in views as well as the launch of YouTube Red. 2016 has gotten off to an interesting start for the service, with big names like PewDiePie launching a new YouTube network in conjunction with Maker Studios, itself part of Disney. For us Android users, one of the most important part of YouTube is the Android app, it’s been updated over the years to gain flashy new features, Chromecast support and more, but now it’s getting one of the more useful features from the Desktop version.

As one eagle-eyed user has noticed, version 11 of the YouTube Android app changes a few things from previous versions. The big addition is the “Watched” tag which Desktop users will be familiar with, it essentially adds a small “Watched” icon to the top of every thumbnail for a video you’ve already watched and also greys out the content to make it easily-distinguishable from new videos. The feature now makes its way to the Android app, and while it’s only a small change, it’ll be a welcome one for those that enjoy daily content from vloggers and the like. Smaller changes include the change of the meny, cast and search icons from black to white and mercifully the new app will remember where you’ve scrolled to in a list when you rotate your device.

As always, these updates will be rolling out gradually to users over the next couple of weeks or so. The version number that people should be looking for is 11.01.53 (110153640) and users can download it and install it over the top of their existing version, or just wait for the update to come down through the Play Store. While a small, and perhaps insignificant update, it’s good that the YouTube app continues to evolve, even in small ways such as these. Speaking of YouTube, those interested in our channel can find it here.
