Despite being known just as yet another Chinese brand a few years ago, Huawei has risen through the ranks to become one of the top five smartphone companies in the whole world, and that’s led to some of their best smartphone releases of the past couple of years. Their Honor brand, while remaining fairly autonomous in most respects, is still part of Huawei proper and if this relatively speedy turnaround regarding Marshmallow is any indication, it could mean that Huawei have finally cracked the whole Android updates things. The Honor 7 is an excellent device considering its sale price, and it’s been a success for them across the pond in Europe.

For some time now, Honor have been beta testing the Marshmallow update with beta testers around the world, and now they came forward on Twitter to let all Honor 7 owners know that they should be receiving the update in “within the next 2 weeks”. This is a pretty decent turnaround for the Chinese firm as the device was launched last Summer time and now it’s receiving its first major update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Both Huawei and Honor have been criticized in the past for providing slow Android updates to devices on the market, or simply not at all. This could be a sign that they’ve finally figured out how to stay on top of speedy updates. To put this sort of release timing into context, Samsung has only just started the rollout of Android 6.0 Marshmallow to their 2015 flagships and other brands such as Sony are still lagging behind.

There is of course, the question of why other Huawei flagships haven’t seen their updates yet, such as the popular P8, Mate S and others from last year. It could be that due to the different way Honor operates, updates can be more easily worked on and it’s possible that Honor is taking updates more seriously than their parent company due to their new focus on the European market. Hopefully though, this will be the start of quicker and less problematic software updates for Huawei smartphones and their customers.
