Marshmallow On its Way to the Droid Turbo 2

Verizon has typically been pretty slow at rolling out Android OS updates. We all remember how long it took the original Droid Turbo to get its Lollipop update last year. Which makes it a bit surprising to see that the Droid Turbo 2 is getting Marshmallow starting today. Verizon has already released the notes regarding the update, and has already begun pushing it out to devices. So for those of you with the shatterproof Droid Turbo 2, you should be getting your Marshmallow update pretty soon, if it’s not already there waiting for you. Head to Settings > About phone > System Updates and then Check for Updates to attempt to grab your update.

The changelog for this update isn’t all that surprising, as we basically know what to expect with Marshmallow updates these days. With Marshmallow, the Droid Turbo 2 will be getting Google Now on Tap, Doze, new app permissions, microSD cards can be adopted as internal storage, do not disturb mode, expanded volume controls, Direct share and of course, tons of under-the-hood changes to make things run smoother. Unique to the Droid Turbo 2 – but more likely unique to Motorola flagships – is the Do not disturb integration with Assist, as well as Attentive Display being part of Moto Actions.

Motorola’s Droid Turbo 2 already has fantastic battery life, but it’s about to get even better thanks to Doze. Google debuted Doze on the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, it essentially allows your phone to go into a deep sleep when you haven’t touched it for a while. Many users can unplug their phone before they fall asleep and only lose about 2% on standby overnight. That might not seem like a big deal, but it really helps extend the battery life of your device. Google Now on Tap is also a pretty big feature in Marshmallow. Allowing you to access Google Now information from anywhere in the OS. It’s hard to ask for anything better than that. Now you can just long-press the home button and Now on Tap will analyze the page to get you information. You can also take screenshots from Now on Tap and immediately share them.

The update to Marshmallow is rolling out now. As usual, this is a staged roll out, so you may see it today, or it may hit your device in the coming days.
