Marshmallow Update to Hit Xperia Devices Starting This March

Android updates have always been a complicated business, what with the big name manufacturers trying their best to set themselves apart with different software features and skins delaying the upgrade to Android itself. Since Google started to slow down releases to once a year or so, things have become a little quicker, but the usual wait of a couple of months or more is still the norm for the majority of users and for devices that are a little older, the wait is often a lot longer, sadly. This week, Samsung started to roll out Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow to the Galaxy S6 line of devices, LG have already rolled out the update to some of their devices, as have HTC and a couple others. Sony users are still waiting, but that wait might be over come next month, if a Tweet from Sony UK is to be believed, that is.

Somebody asked the Xperia GB account on Twitter when Marshmallow would be hitting the Xperia Z3 line of devices, as the user rightly pointed out, it’s been available on other devices for some time now. Typical of press accounts, the Xperia GB Twitter handle didn’t really answer the user’s exact question, but instead told him that the Marshmallow update would start to hit the Xperia Z5, the Xperia Z4 Tablet and the Xperia Z3+ some time in March this year. “Confirmed timings” as the Twitter handle put it will be confirmed closer to the time, but a March timeframe is similar to how long it took Sony to roll out the Lollipop update this sort of time last year, and Sony is known for taking their time with big software updates like these. While they might not be the quickest, their updates are known for being stable and problem-free, but that probably doesn’t sound all that great to those that have been kept waiting for some time. Especially as January was previously thought of as the release month for the Xperia Z5 line.

We’ve previously seen Sony outline just which devices will be getting the update to Marshmallow, and while the majority of higher-end devices are on the list from the past couple of years, there were some notable omissions. Hopefully, Xperia users won’t have to wait too much longer though, and this time next month they have their Marshmallow update.
