Following its official introduction at Mobile World Congress, the Samsung Galaxy S7 series became the subject of numerous positive reviews for various reasons. Overall the market response favors the South Korean smartphone maker, and early reports indicate that selling figures have exceeded Samsung’s initial expectations. Piling up on this success, Consumer Reports recently shared their thoughts in regards to Samsung’s new lineup, and after thoroughly testing the new duo, the magazine concluded that the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge might just be the best smartphones the market currently has to offer.
At first glance, the new Samsung Galaxy S7 series might look very similar to the models launched last year, and granted, while the new lineup further refines the overall glass and metal look, it’s rather obvious that both generations share the same design language across the board. This might seem underwhelming at first, but, in reality, Samsung’s decision to spend less time and resources into coming up with a fresh design translated into better overall hardware specifications for the new series. Consumer Reports was quick to mention that, unlike the Samsung Galaxy S6, the new Galaxy S7 lineup is not only water-resistant but also features expandable storage (not unlike the Samsung Galaxy S5). In their testing, Consumer Reports found that both the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge perform as advertised when immersed in 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes. Furthermore, the magazine rated the Samsung Galaxy S7’s battery life as being “Excellent”, and praised the smartphone’s camera capabilities with “Excellent” image quality and “Very Good” 1080p video recording quality.
In conclusion, Consumer Reports’ Mike Gikas writes that judging by their time spent with Samsung’s latest flagship lineup, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are not just the company’s best smartphones yet, “but, perhaps, the best smartphones” currently available on the market. They are water-resistant while they maintain a sleek aluminum and glass design; they offer expandable storage, an excellent camera, support for quick and wireless charging, as well as great performance, all the while boasting excellent battery life. A clear success for Samsung, and perhaps one of the most sought-after smartphone series in the world.
