Those of you on Verizon with the HTC One M8 can rejoice. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update has been approved and will begin its rollout on Monday! That’s according to Mo Versi, VP or Product Management at HTC. Versi has been quite vocal in the past year or two, on Twitter, in regards to when updates are approved and when they’ll be rolling out. It helps lift the veil a bit for users that are anxious for their updates, but don’t know the grueling process that these updates actually go through before they are made available to your device.

Now, since the update is due to be rolling out on Monday, March 7th, doesn’t necessarily mean it will. There is always something that could get in the way and delay the roll out. However, looking back at recent HTC updates, that hasn’t happened just yet. Motorola, however, was due to roll out Marshmallow to the Droid Turbo 2 on Tuesday, March 1st, and it still hasn’t started rolling out. So tough to say what might be happening there.

With Marshmallow, HTC One M8 owners will get a ton of under-the-hood changes. However a few of the bigger changes include Doze, Now on Tap and the new permissions for apps. Doze is a pretty popular feature as it extends the standby battery life on your smartphone. What Doze does is it puts your smartphone into a deep sleep when it is not being used. So if you haven’t used it for about 20 minutes or so, it will go into  a deep sleep and only check for notifications and such every so often. It has drastically increased battery life on older devices already, and the One M8 will likely see the same. Another feature is the new permissions. So in Marshmallow, permissions are now asked for when they are needed. Instead of asking for them at the time of downloading the app. What this means is you have more granular control over these apps permissions. Allowing you to decide whether you want it to have control of your microphone or camera or both.

The update should begin rolling out on Monday, but we could also see it land a bit before that, as we have seen that before.
