Huawei is currently working hard at implementing a new payment service that they will be offering for their device users. In a launching ceremony held earlier, Huawei announced they are working with China UnionPay to bring about the new service. The two companies confirmed that they were both partnering with one another in order to create a new payment system set to be launched in April. According to their announcement, China UnionPay card holders will be able to make purchases through their Huawei smartphone.  Huawei’s confirmation of the partnership follows the arrival of both Apple Pay and Samsung Pay in the country. Just last month, the two services launched and have started to test how well near-field communications payments will be adapted throughout the country.

As a local competitor, Huawei Pay promises to provide extra security and compatibility with cloud services. Adding to this, they are working at using token technology. Its partnership with China UnionPay allows them to monopolize on a majority of Chinese users, particularly those who are using a UnionPay Card. And considering China UnionPay is considered as a domestic bank organization in the country, it will be able to unite all of the big banks in the country into one. Based on their release, Huawei Pay will be supporting interbank networking. At the same time, the service will be connecting all ATMs throughout mainland China.

Huawei Pay is not the first local payment service to make use of near-field communications technology. As a matter of fact, other retailers and tech giants in the country have already started to implement their own payments solution; among these names are Baidu and Alibaba. But knowing how wide Huawei’s reach is compared to these, it seems likely that Huawei would be more successful with its payment service.  As of this writing, there isn’t much information available about Huawei Pay. Aside from the confirmation of its partnership with China UnionPay, there still is much about Huawei Pay that needs to be divulged to the public. Huawei has promised to release a more detailed announcement of the service on April 6th, along with their launch of their latest handset model, the Huawei P9.
