It’s been well over two weeks since Instagram first announced that they will be changing the way their feed functions. Ever since its announcement, it has drawn in disappointment from its users who seemed to be unhappy with the way the new feed would be presenting the photos. Instead of the usual format wherein the feed would be showing posts in reverse chronological order, the social photo sharing app has planned to utilize an algorithm that would rank photos and show them on the feed. Unfortunately, this did not go well with even their highest-profile users. Over the past few days, a number of Instagram users have started to urge their followers to turn on specific notifications particularly for their posts. Users grew scared of how the new ranking system would lose their posts in the algorithm and their followers won’t be able to see them anymore.
Thankfully, Instagram sent out a tweet addressing the concerns of its followers. According to the photo sharing app, they have listened to their users’ concerns and have decided not to change the feed “right now.” This tweet was their reply to the panic that Instagram users have expressed by asking their followers to turn on their notifications specific for their posts. But while Instagram promised that nothing has changed on the feed yet, they also promised to let their users know when the changes have started rolling out.
As of this writing, Instagram still hasn’t announced when they plan to switch their feed to display posts using the new algorithm. A representative from the photo sharing app however has expressed that they still have “weeks or even months of testing to go” before they fully launch the new algorithm within the app. They have encouraged their users to rest easy as the changes have not yet taken effect. Hopefully, Instagram listens to the requests of its users instead of implementing the new algorithm changes. If you have received a request from your favorite Instagram user to turn on your notifications for his posts, you might want to reconsider this as this can drain out your battery pretty fast.
