Android Marshmallow became official back in early October last year, but very few devices worldwide have got the update just as yet. Most devices continue to run on either Lollipop or earlier versions of Android, and while many of these devices are expected to receive Marshmallow at some stage later this year, most low-end smartphones and tablets are expected to stay put at Lollipop or older versions of Google’s mobile operating system. LG though, has been one of the few OEMs that has promised Marshmallow for not just its premium smartphones like the G3, G4 and V10, but also for entry-level handsets like the G Stylo, say for instance. The company recently launched its latest flagship, the LG G5, with Android 6.0.1 pre-loaded.
Coming to the Marshmallow roadmap for LG Electronics, while the G3 and the G4 have both got their Marshmallow updates earlier this year, it is only now that the LG V10 has reportedly started receiving the latest flavor of Android from the company. According to reports coming out of LG’s home country of South Korea, the company has started the rollout process for Android 6.0 to the dual-screen, triple-camera smartphone that was introduced by the company late last year with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on board. One interesting thing is that alongside its homeland, LG also seems to be pushing out the latest update to users in Turkey, which is a clear departure from convention. Some users might know that LG usually rolls out most of its major software updates to users in Poland before initiating a wider, worldwide release. However, that doesn’t seem to be happening this time around.
As for the update itself, the download is a fairly hefty 800 MB in size, and is expected to bring along the usual native Marshmallow features such as Google Now on Tap for enhanced usability, a revamped app permissions manager for better privacy and Doze Mode for improved battery life. LG apparently also made a few changes to the UI, one of which relates to the incredibly useful ‘Knock Code’ feature that allows devices to be woken up or put to sleep with the help of a double tap. Either way, there’s no word on when the update will be rolled out globally, but now that the Marshmallow update is live in some parts of the world, it shouldn’t be long before V10 users across the globe start getting their hands on the new software.
