A tipster has sent in some screenshots from his Moto X Play receiving the Android 6.0.1 update. Motorola published their 6.0.1 Marshmallow Release Notes indicating that this update brings with it important security improvements to your Moto X Play. The enhancements include Android security patches and the ever popular and increasing in number, Unicode 8.0 Emoji update with over a 100 new emojis as well as many updates – this includes the highly treasured tacos, burritos and the rare unicorn. The update allows the power button to be used as a means to launch the camera by double pressing on the button. There are also important bug fixes and updates to improve the stability of your Moto X Play. The update is already rolling out and may be waiting to update, but remember that you can check for it manually by navigating to Menu -> Settings -> About Device -> Software Update -> Update.
Released in August 2015, the Moto X Play was part of a Motorola trio – Moto X Pure Edition, Moto X Style and Moto X Play – although the Pure Edition and Style were essentially the same devices with the Pure Edition for the US market and the Style for the rest of the world. The Moto X Play was a watered-down version to make it more affordable – a sort of “mid-range, mid-range device,” as quoted from our review and was not available in the US. While it arrived with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, it now has received its Marshmallow update as witnessed in this article.
The Moto X Play comes with a 5.5-inch IPS LCD FHD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and 403 pixels-per-inch (PPI). The brain comes from a Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor with four cores clocked at 1.0GHz and four cores clocked at 1.7GHz. It packs 2GB of RAM and either 16GB or 32GB of expandable memory up to 128GB. It comes with a huge 21MP main camera with phase detection autofocus, a dual-tone LED flash, and a f/2.0 aperture – however, it only takes good photos for all of its great specs. It sports a 5MP front-facing camera (FFC) for selfies and video chatting. It does pack a huge, non-removable 3630mAh battery and has fast battery charging.
