For OnePlus 2 owners, the wait for Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) has been a longer one than many had likely hoped for. However, the company did announce a few months back that Marshmallow would become available before the close of the first quarter of this year. Which is essentially the end of this month and just in time (as the image above states), OnePlus has now announced the release of Marshmallow in the form of OxygenOS 3.0 for OnePlus 2 owners. Well, sort of.

This is not an official final release but instead is one which is designed to be a “daily-driver-material community release of 3.0”. It was reported about a week ago that OnePlus has started soak testing Marshmallow and this is likely the next stage in that testing before the final release is available and begins to roll out fully. The difference with this latest ‘community build’ is that it is available to anyone who wants to download and install it. Of course, with this being a beta release, it is wise to expect that not everything might be functioning perfectly. In fact, OnePlus do note that there are a few ‘known issues’ already. For instance, stored fingerprints will be lost after the update to this build. Likewise, Maxxaudio presets will have to be reset. OnePlus also confirms that during the initial soak testing, there were issues noted with Wi-Fi speeds (which has not been resolved). However, this particular release is designed for OnePlus to further check the update and work towards any more issues or bugs that might surface during the testing.

On the positive side of things, OnePlus has detailed a number of the aspects which will be updated and which includes (besides the update to Marshmallow) a new OnePlus Camera UI, a new wallpaper picker, as well as various improvements to the Alert Slider, Shelf UX, fingerprint recognition speeds, general system improvements and the March security patch. As this is an open to all update, this is not one which will be sent OTA, but instead will need to be flashed on your device. Those interested in grabbing the download can do so by clicking through the link below. Alternatively, you can wait for the finished product which will come in the form of an OTA when ready.
