Sprint has announced that it has started rolling out Android Marshmallow to the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ phablet on its network. The device was launched late last year alongside the Galaxy Note 5 with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on board, but the latest update being rolled out by Sprint will bring the device up to date with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, which is the latest stable version of Android released by Google. The carrier rolled out Marshmallow earlier this week to at least a couple of other smartphones on its network, including the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note 5, but it is only now that the Galaxy Note S6 Edge+ is getting the new software. The incoming update comes with software version number G928PVPU2BPC3 and is reportedly a little over 1.4 GB in size.
The changelog on Sprint’s official Galaxy S6 Edge+ support page says that the latest update will bring Android Marshmallow to the device along with some security updates, but it doesn’t get into any more details regarding either feature enhancements or the security vulnerabilities that are being patched up with the incoming update. However, Marshmallow is expected to bring a whole host of new features including Google Now on Tap, an all-new app permissions manager, a revamped app drawer and a battery-saving feature named ‘Doze’ that will be able to turn off all connections when the phone is not in use. What’s more, Samsung’s latest interpretation of TouchWiz is also supposed to be lighter on resources and smoother in operation than it has ever been, so overall, the update should definitely be worth it.
Finally, it has to be mentioned that it’s not just the U.S. where users of the Galaxy S6 Edge+ are getting the sweet taste of Marshmallow this Friday. Reports from around the world seem to indicate that the phablet is getting the update in a number of markets around the world, including India and France, where the download is apparently a tad smaller at around 1.3 GB, if reports flying around on the internet are anything to go by. It also bears mentioning that in Samsung’s home base of South Korea, the Galaxy S6 Edge+ had received Android Marshmallow last month itself.
