Last month, hardcore gamers who placed a pre-order on both the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive have reportedly started receiving their consumer models. Along with the VR headset, games have also been released for players to enjoy with their new gear. While there are some games that have been made available on either platform, there are also some games that have been made exclusive to just one. This is why there are some VR fans who have felt disappointed to discover that the demo they played isn’t available on the headset they purchased. And considering the fact that VR headsets aren’t cheap, it could really be very disappointing. Thankfully, this issue would soon be a thing of the past as game developers are working hard at making exclusives work with the other headset through an unofficial workaround.

Earlier today, a concept program was unveiled on GitHub. The program showcased Rift-exclusive games “Oculus Dreamdeck” and “Lucky’s Tale” as they are able to be played on the Vive. A Reddit user posted the code for the games on the website to share with other users. But before either game can be played, they need to be owned by the player before they can be played on the Vive. The code released on Reddit, however, may also be used for porting other game titles. The user, CrossVR, shares that there is a possibility for other games to incorporate the code. Although he hasn’t had the time to test it out with other games, he is pleased with the swift progress.

With unofficial ports available for these exclusives, it could be interesting to see how the Rift and Vive would keep competing against each other for the title of the best VR headset. But considering the fact that Sony’s Playstation VR headset is also set to release in October, it’s high time these companies stop competing against each other and focus more on how they could make their customers pleased with their devices. After all, the option of being able to choose the headset where to use a particular game is a better selling point for customers instead of exclusivity.
