There has been lots of attention and focus on VR these past couple months, and even more recently in this past week. While it’s fairly obvious that VR will have a pretty large presence at next week’s annual Google I/O developer conference, specifics about what we’ll see from Google on the subject are still a mystery. Everyone’s best guess, though, is that Google will be unveiling their hotly anticipated VR hardware at the event during the morning Keynote speech on the first day. It shouldn’t come as a shock that Google has not confirmed anything, and why would they, as that would spoil the surprise.
Recent rumors about Android VR, as it’s to be named it seems, have recently popped up on the web yesterday suggesting once again that the hardware may show up at the conference, and once again today where Twitter user Peter Rojas mentions more details about Android VR as a follow-up to his previous tweet, this time stating that the hardware to be unveiled will be the standalone headset that has been mentioned before. Now, some more evidence has surfaced that suggests Google is working ever so diligently to prepare Android VR for the near future in every way possible, as the Android VR icon has apparently shown up in the Google Play Developer Console which is visible from the image below courtesy of Android Police
While this is simply an icon and may not be of much excitement for the average consumer, it does illustrate to a point that Google is getting things ready for Android VR to hit the scene, and soon, as they typically wouldn’t put up a place holder icon for something far in advance. If you’re able to log into the Google Play Developer Console, you can head to the pricing & distribution tab where the icon appears to the right of Android Auto. The icon is, of course, unresponsive, and it’s not actually showing its own unique icon design. There’s just about a week left before Google I/O 2016 takes place, and if VR is going to be a topic of interest for you, there seems to be much to look forward to in the days ahead.
