In addition to announcing the Snapdragon Wear 1100 processor today, Qualcomm is also announcing that there are over 100 wearable products shipping worldwide, that are powered by Qualcomm Technologies processors. These include products like the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition 4G LTE, Sony Smartwatch 3, Moto 360 2nd generation, the Huawei Watch and many others – many that are being announced this week. There are also 45 products that are running the Snapdragon Wear 1100 or Snapdragon Wear 2100 processors – both are processors designed specifically for wearables, whereas most Android Wear smartwatches are using the Snapdragon 400 processor which was originally sold and marketed as a smartphone processor. Qualcomm notes in their press release that “leading product families such as the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100, CSR102x, Bluetooth Smart 4.2 SoC and Qualcomm SiRFStar location” are part of products in a range of wearables. Which include smart eyewear, smartwatches, smart bands, smart headsets and smart accessories.

Wearables are quickly becoming the next big computing area that many companies are focusing on. Qualcomm is right at the forefront of wearables, including announcing two processors that are designed specifically for wearables. The Snapdragon Wear 1100 which was announced today, is for more low-powered wearables. Think of products like smart bands, kids smartwatches, and things of that nature. The main reason for this, is because it’s a much smaller processor and can fit in smaller wearables, while still offering some great battery life. The Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor that Qualcomm announced back in February, is meant for more powerful products, like Android Wear smartwatches. In fact, LG is working on a smartwatch that is powered by the Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor.

Qualcomm is pretty far ahead of their competitors when it comes to wearables right now. Already having their processors in about 100 products is no easy feat. Now many of these products are not available in the US – like a number of those being announced at Computex this week in Taipei – however it’s still important that Qualcomm gets their processors and other technology inside these wearables, as they have done. There will be plenty more announcements this week and throughout the year for wearables that are using either the Snapdragon Wear 1100 or Snapdragon Wear 2100 processors inside.
