Verizon’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge have reportedly started receiving a new update each that promises to fix a few bugs and add some tweaks to the two devices. The latest software update being rolled out by Verizon also comes with the latest security patches, so post-installation, the Android Security Patch Level will be updated to May, 2016. The updates also reportedly remove the Amazon Music app from the two devices. The new software comes with version number MMB29K.G920VVRU4CPD2 for the Galaxy S6 and MMB29K.G925VVRU4CPD2 for the Galaxy S6 Edge, and are reportedly smaller in size when compared to the massive updates being rolled out these days, but are important enough to merit immediate installation, not the least of which because they bring the latest security enhancements for Samsung’s 2015 flagships.
Coming to some of the issues addressed by Verizon and Samsung through the latest software, the official changelog posted on Verizon’s support pages claim that it fixes the Google Play Store app update and download errors, which was apparently one of the major issues plaguing the devices. Verizon also says that it “resolves Visual Voice Mail access issues” and adds a ‘Send Premium SMS’ option in the Application Manager settings. Among some of the other tweaks, Google Search will henceforth be available from inside the ‘Settings’ menu, and the default USB mode will automatically include ‘File Transfer’ and other options. One interesting tweak is that video calls can henceforth be answered as voice calls, in which case the incoming audio will go straight to the earpiece by default.
Verizon also states that the latest update will bring a new memory setting in the Application Manager that will allow users to quickly check the amount of RAM that’s free and the amount that’s in use. The new feature can be accessed by going over to ‘Settings’, then tapping on ‘Applications’, followed by ‘Application Manager’ and finally, choosing ‘More’. The incoming update is expected to rollout over-the-air in a phased manner, so while it might take a while to reach every user around the country, Verizon customers with either one of the two devices should still expect the notification on their handsets sooner rather than later.
