Android 6.0 Marshmallow continues to reach smartphones from various manufacturers, and now the OnePlus 2 can be lumped into the mix with those that have already picked up the new software. Back at the end of May, it was detailed that the Marshmallow software update would begin to push out to OnePlus 2 owners in a couple of weeks, and although it seems to be slightly ahead of schedule, the update is now being sent out to devices as Oxygen OS v3.0.2, which is officially based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

OnePlus states that this is an incremental rollout of the software, and with that being said it means that not everyone is going to get the software update today. The good news, though, for those who end up without it is that the update push should end up completing within the next 48 hours according to OnePlus blog post, so by sometime Monday most or all OnePlus 2 owners should be updated to the most recent software, as the company notes 100 percent completion by that time. Since this is Marshmallow software, the usual changes are to be included which are Now on Tap, Doze Mode, and app standby, the last two of which will be aimed at helping users save on battery life throughout the day.

In addition to these changes which can be found on all devices which run Marshmallow, the OnePlus 2 will have device specific features that are part of the update too, like an all-new OnePlus camera UI and AF optimization. OnePlus has also improved the fingerprint sensor performance in this update so users should notice an overall better experience with unlocking the device. While lots of things are being added as part of this update, OnePlus is removing a couple of things as well. Both MaxxAudio and Tuner are no longer part of the software, and have been replaced by Dirac HD Sound technology. There is also a new recents list app locker that can be enabled per app, allowing them to stay in place when other apps are cleared out. OnePlus also mentions that there will be general performance improvements to the device system wide, so overall things should run quite a bit smoother than before.
