Since the end of last year, the race to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) has well and truly been underway. As a result, the first six months of this year has seen Marshmallow rolling out to a considerable number of devices. However, a ‘considerable number of’ is not all eligible devices and as it stands, a number of smartphones are still waiting on their major update to arrive and this is in spite of the next version of Android, N, seemingly only around the corner. In fact, in the case of certain select smartphones, it is rather surprising that they in particular have not seen the Marshmallow update arriving yet.
Most notably, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+ on AT&T. These are two handsets which were only released in the second half of last year and while the Galaxy S7 has now arrived, the Galaxy Note 5 does currently remain the flagship Galaxy Note offering from Samsung. Therefore, it is surprising that it has taken this long for the AT&T variant to receive its update. Of course, as this is a carrier model, it is the case that there are additional hurdles in place which need to be overcome for an update like this to commence rolling out. However, even with the carrier aspect taken into consideration AT&T has taken their time as the likes of Verizon and Sprint rolled out their respective carrier updates to the Galaxy Note 5, months ago.
Either way, if you do own a Galaxy Note 5 or the Galaxy S6 Edge+ on AT&T, then it now does seem as though their updates are en route. Various aspects of social media are now reporting the updates as arriving on their handsets, with the update weighing in around 1.4GB and bringing devices up to Android 6.0.1. As a result, if you do own either handset, you should have the update waiting to be downloaded and installed already. If not, it does seem likely that it will arrive in the new few hours, days at the latest. You can check your individual handset in the normal manner by heading to settings, about and check for updates.
