Regardless of which Android platform you use, Netflix is likely to be one of the apps you have installed on your device(s). After all, Netflix boasts some very big user numbers and with new platforms like Android TV and the next billion smartphone users just round the corner, it is likely to become an even bigger entity in the future.
Either way, it is needless to say that Netflix is one of those iconic names and likewise, one of the most-identifiable app icons. Although, that might be about to change as it seems Netflix is in the process of introducing a new icon. Most well be familiar with the Netflix logo which sports a white background and red Netflix lettering (although the colors do vary with a black background also used), the same logo you will find as the icon on a smartphone, tablet or Android TV. However, this morning Netflix has updated its icon on various social media sites including Facebook and Twitter. As you can see from the new icon, gone is the white background version, as is the name as it was once shown. Instead, the new logo sports a dark theme and a very blatant ‘N’ for Netflix. While this same icon change has not yet taken effect on Google Play or on downloaded apps, it does seem to be the case that this will be the icon used by Netflix on its mobile offerings. This much has since been reported as confirmed by Netflix to Business Insider.
However, in the grand scheme of things, it seems the new icon/logo will not be replacing the old/current one. Instead, it seems the two will both be used and presumably for different marketing aspects. As a single N is far more small-display friendly (instead of having to make use of the full Netflix name plastered over a small smartphone icon), it does stand to reason that the company is now looking to introduce this icon for their mobile apps. Of course, this is not the first time Netflix has undergone a major design change with the app UI being radically updated and coincidentally about this time last year. If you are a Netflix user, then it seems to be the case that you should expect an update arriving at some point with the icon change.
