As is the case at this time every year now, the OnePlus hype has been ongoing for weeks. Although that has now come to an end, as OnePlus has today formally introduced their latest handset, the OnePlus 3. This is the next in the flagship line from OnePlus and as a result does come boasting some rather decent specs and features, as well as a different build thanks to the inclusion of an anodized aluminum body.
In terms of the specs, the OnePlus 3 is now official and is confirmed as coming equipped with a 5.5-inch Optic AMOLED display, one which makes use of a 1920 x 1080 resolution and a 401 ppi. Inside, and in accordance with a number of rumors that had come through prior to the launch, the OnePlus 3 does come equipped with 6GB LPDDR4 RAM and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor (clocking at 2.2 GHz). Internal storage is set at 64GB, while cameras come in the form of a 16-megapixel rear camera along with an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. A 3,000 mAh battery is included in the package, as is ‘Dash Charge’ which is said to offer a ‘day’s worth’ (defined at 60%) of usage in return for a quick 30-minute charge. Additional features on offer include USB Type-C connectivity, a fingerprint sensor, dual-SIM and Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow), by way of OxygenOS 3.0. It is also worth pointing out that unlike the OnePlus 2, the OnePlus 3 is NFC-enabled and will be able to make use of mobile payment solutions like Android Pay.
In terms of pricing, OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 3 is priced at $399.99 and will begin its invite-free ability to be purchased from today via the company’s website. Following in the footsteps of the previous model, the OnePlus 3 will be sold as unlocked and carrier-free and will be available in two distinct colors, Graphite and Soft Gold. Although, the latter will be available at a later (unconfirmed) date. There had been rumors of multiple variants (that differ in RAM and storage capabilities and price), although at the moment there is no official confirmation from OnePlus on these additional models, with only the 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage model announced.
