Today, BlackBerry announced the DTEK50, which is their latest smartphone running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This is their second Android-powered smartphone, behind the BlackBerry PRIV which debuted last fall. The DTEK50 is a rather small smartphone, with a 5.2-inch 1080p display. It also does resemble the Alcatel Idol 4, which likely means that the device was built by Alcatel’s parent company, TCL. With BlackBerry working on the software and security of the device. And that’s exactly what BlackBerry is known for.

According to BlackBerry, the DTEK50 is the most secure smartphone in the world. They are marketing the fact that your phone is way more than just a smartphone. Seeing that most of us use our smartphones for pictures, logging into our bank accounts and much more. And you wouldn’t want just anyone having access to your banking credentials. Which is why you need a secure smartphone. BlackBerry says that the DTEK50 has “built in armor protecting your personal information.” The DTEK50 will automatically monitor Android OS on the device, as well as the apps. This allows the smartphone to let you know when your privacy might be at risk. But that’s not all, it’ll also let you know how to take actions against these privacy invasions and fix it. DTEK50 will notify you whenever someone is taking pictures or videos without your knowledge, whenever someone is turning on your microphone, sending a text message or accessing your contacts or location.

Inside the DTEK50, BlackBerry has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 running the show. This is paired with the Adreno 405 GPU and 3GB of RAM. There is also 16GB of internal storage available, along with a micro SD card slot that can theoretically support up to 2TB of space (of course, current micro SD card offerings are only available up to 256GB). Powering the show there is a 2610mAh battery, which BlackBerry quotes as lasting around 17 hours of mixed usage. On the camera side of things, there is a 13-megapixel camera around back which has phase detection auto-focus and an aperture of f/2.0. The front-facing camera is a 8-megapixel shooter with a f/2.2 aperture.

As far as security updates go, BlackBerry has been quick to push out the monthly security patches to the PRIV already (in fact, some months it beats Google to actually announcing the patch). BlackBerry is planning to continue that with the DTEK50. The BlackBerry DTEK50 is available for pre-order today at just $299, from ShopBlackBerry.com in Canada, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, UK and US. BlackBerry is offering it up as a bundle with their MP-12600 Mobile Power Charger. Which is a 12,600mAh portable charger with 2 USB ports, typically that would retail for $59.99. BlackBerry says that the DTEK50 bundle will begin shipping on or before August 8th.
